Background
Taylor Newendorp, MA, LCPC, is a licensed clinical professional counselor and the founder and president of Chicago Counseling Center, P.C., a private practice in Chicago specializing in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Perfectionism, and Anxiety Disorders—including Panic Disorder, Specific Phobias, Social Anxiety, and Health Anxiety. He is also the Network Clinical Training Director for NOCD, the world’s largest provider of specialized teletherapy for OCD and related conditions.
In his role at NOCD, Taylor oversees all aspects of clinical training and development for a team of multidisciplinary therapists, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based treatments. Through this work, he has trained over 1,000 clinicians across the United States and Canada in the use of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and other best practices for treating OCD and Anxiety Disorders.
Taylor earned his Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Kenyon College and his Master’s in Marital and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego. During his graduate training, he worked as an individual and family therapist at Phoenix House Recovery Services, an outpatient substance abuse treatment program in Carlsbad, California. After relocating to Chicago, he joined Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital (now AMITA), where he served as a therapist and later as a clinical supervisor in both the Center for Eating Disorders and the Center for Anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive Disorders. There, he led exposure therapy groups, ran the evening intensive outpatient program, and provided supervision and training to clinical staff.
A strong advocate for evidence-based practices, Taylor has completed the International OCD Foundation’s Behavioral Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) and currently serves on the board of OCD Midwest, a regional affiliate of the IOCDF. He is also a scientific advisor for NOCD, where he develops and leads clinical trainings, provides consultation, and mentors clinicians working with OCD and related disorders. He has presented nationally on topics such as Perfectionism, OCD, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) at conferences hosted by the International OCD Foundation and the American Mental Health Counselors Association.
Taylor is the author of The Perfectionism Workbook: Proven Strategies to End Procrastination, Accept Yourself, and Achieve Your Goals, a guide that integrates cognitive-behavioral and exposure-based strategies to help individuals overcome maladaptive perfectionism.
Taylor’s therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and strengths-based. He places great emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, believing that effective counseling begins with truly understanding each person beyond a diagnosis. He frequently uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, regulate intense emotions, and improve their relationships. His approach is grounded in research—but more importantly, he has seen these methods work firsthand in the lives of hundreds of individuals.
Originally from Houston, Taylor has lived in Chicago since 2004 with his wife and three sons. He is passionate about helping people reclaim their lives from anxiety, perfectionism, and OCD, and he remains committed to providing the highest quality of care through both clinical practice and professional training.
